Community Service

"What you girls do by preparing brunch or spending time with families and children, is so much more appreciated than you could imagine. For families visiting the hospital it takes one more thing off of our plate to be able to come downstairs to the kitchen and not have to think about what I am going to have for breakfaste" -Sharon Healey, LCSW, Yawkey Family Inn
One of the most important aspects of sorority life is community service. Our chapter takes pride in helping others, and we strive to help in whatever aspect we can. Whether it is our weekly visits to the Yawkey Family Inn, a local walk for breast cancer, or sending packages to soldiers across seas, we devote much of our time each semester towards making a difference.
Yawkey Family Inn
Each week the sisters of Gamma Mu volunteer at the Yawkey Family Inn in Boston. The Yawkey Inn is a housing program providing the families of patients staying at the Children's Hospital with an affordable place to stay. On Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings the sisters visit the Inn, bake or cook brunch and spend time talking or playing games with the families and children staying at the inn.
In performing these small tasks the Gamma Mu chapter hopes to lighten the load for these families who have so much else to worry about. We aim to give hope, spread happiness, and make someone's day. It is refreshing to know that the families appreciate what we do and look forward to seeing us each week.
In 2010 the chapter spent over 300 community service hours at the Yawkey Inn, and we only hope to strengthen the relationships we've built with the staff.
